Ive been teaching for two days now. Man, its great to be out there and I do love relief teaching. Its flexible and I don't have to plan any lessons for the next day. Hurrah!!
The kids are amazing. And I love that I'm able to drive to work...its a feeling of independance to be able to drive on my own. It was shit scary the first time, I had to get used to driving on the opposite side of the road. And there are a lot of careless crazy drivers here. I have to be on alert at all times.
But wow, just being able to work and drive is such an amazing turn of feelings. I feel like myself again. Being jobless was absolutely no fun. Im such a career woman.
Ive also been quite active keeping in touch with expat women that Ive met. Its good to have friends to talk to. They are awesome. Its great to talk to someone about my observations, experiences and hearing what they have to say. I would love to meet some locals, but unfortunately, I don't see that happening much. It is quite hard. Not to mention the barrier that exist.
Dubai is really a class society. But what struck me the most is despite that people still get along pretty well. There are no mention of wars or gang/race rivals. Everyone sort of accepted the situation and moved on with their lives. The class system sometimes bugs me, because it is what it is...discrimination. But I guess like everyone else, I just accept it and make the most of it.
I am somewhat glad as well that I don't have to deal with the taxi drivers as much as I had to before. What a great relief!
